Protect Your Business from Identity Theft with the PROOF Scheme

Did you know that Companies House accepts paper forms under a “good faith” rule? This means they don’t always check signatures thoroughly, which unfortunately leaves businesses vulnerable to fraudsters who might try to hijack your company by filing fake paper forms.

What is the PROOF Scheme?

To combat this, Companies House offers the PROOF (PROtected Online Filing) Scheme. Once your company is registered for PROOF, Companies House will stop accepting paper forms for key changes.

What does it protect?

By joining, any changes to the following must be done online only, providing a massive layer of security:

Officer appointments or terminations.

Changes to your Registered Office address.

Changes in Shareholdings.

Annual Confirmation Statements.

How to Sign Up (It’s Free!)

Securing your company only takes a few moments if you have your authentication code ready:

Log in to the Companies House Webfiling portal.

Verify: Enter your company number and authentication code.

Join: Select the “Join PROOF” option from the dashboard.

Agree: Accept the Terms & Conditions and click “Protect this company”.

In a world where corporate identity theft is on the rise, not signing up for PROOF is a risk your business doesn’t need to take. If you need help navigating the Webfiling portal or securing your company records, reach out to us today.
